Mark your calendars for a musically nostalgic afternoon on Sunday, August 11, at 4:00pm, for “Songs My Daddy Taught Me,” a concert featuring Linda Edwards, soprano, and Dewitt Tipton, pianist. Together, they will perform a selection of beloved songs from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, along with some cherished old-time hymns. The concert will take place in the Parish Hall of St. John in the Wilderness at 1905 Greenville Highway in Flat Rock.
Linda Edwards boasts an impressive 50-year career in music and theatre. Her international debut was in Tel Aviv with Leonard Bernstein and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. She has graced stages worldwide in opera, musical theatre, and as a symphony soloist, with notable performances at the Aspen Music Festival and in European tours of Phantom of the Opera as Carlotta. Local audiences may recognize her from her over 35-year association with Flat Rock Playhouse, where she has portrayed iconic roles such as Madame Thenardier in Les Misérables, Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, Ursula in The Little Mermaid, and Truvy and Clairee in Steel Magnolias.
Mr. Tipton praises Ms. Edwards as a "brilliant singing actress" with a versatile talent for both comic and serious roles. The duo is thrilled to collaborate once again for this special performance.
The concert is free to attend, with donations gratefully accepted to support the Friends of Music program.
