Please Welcome Our New Rector,
The Rev. Josh Stephens
Fr. Josh's first Sunday was February 23, 2020.
Fr. Josh has been called as the next rector of St. John in the Wilderness. He joins our parish having served since 2016 as the Associate Rector for Family Ministry at Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. He received his Master of Divinity from The School of Theology at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in May of 2016. Josh is the youngest of four siblings and was born and raised in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where he fell in love with spending time in creation, especially surfing and kayaking. Each summer, his family went camping in Pisgah National Forest and visited his grandparents in Hendersonville. He was active as a teenager at Christ Episcopal Church (Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida) and it was there he first felt a nudge towards ministry. After high school, Josh received a soccer scholarship to attend Milligan College (Johnson City, Tennessee) where he graduated with a BA in Bible/Christian Ministry with a minor in church history. From 2010-2013, Josh served as Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Norfolk, VA.
Josh is married to Rosanna Couture, an Emergency Medicine physician, and they have a two-year-old daughter named Arlo. Josh and Rosanna enjoy mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, and church potlucks, and they are thrilled to be joining St. John in the Wilderness and the Diocese of Western North Carolina.
