LAY MINISTRY
SEE BELOW FOR SCHEDULES
Sunday Ministers
Acolytes serve at the altar to assist the clergy during the service, as well as carry the cross or candles during processions. At St. John both adults and youth serve in this ministry.
Lay ministers are licensed by the Bishop of Western North Carolina to read the Lectionary readings or Prayers for the People, at the services and administer the Chalice during the Eucharist0.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained and licensed to take the sacraments to the sick and shut-in parishioners following the services on Sunday.
Ushers serve at all services in the parish. They help in seating the congregation in our historic pews with doors, collect our offerings, assist those going to the altar rail for communion, and in general help make the service move smoothly. Men and women both serve in this ministry.
Cart Drivers are men and women who drive, our 6 passenger golf cart, on Sundays from the parking lot up the hill to the church to transport those who are unable or prefer not to walk.
If you would like to serve in any of these Sunday ministries of St. John, please contact the Rector.
