WEDDINGS
What are the wedding policies at St. John in the Wilderness?
The bride and/or the groom or a member of their immediate family must be a member of this parish.
All weddings are according to the Book of Common Prayer, the Episcopal Church's worship resource.
Weddings are not performed on holiday weekends or during Lent.
Pre-marriage counseling is required.
All wedding plans must be approved by the Rector.
Funerals
May we have a funeral service at St. John?
St. John is ready to provide burial or memorial services for anyone who dies and whose family wishes to have the service here. However, normally there is some connection to our parish. Contact the clergy for clarification.
Are there any Episcopal funeral traditions that are observed?
In order to keep a simple tradition for everyone:
Altar flowers provided by the family are the only flowers used during the service.
If the coffin is present, it will be closed while in the church, and it will be covered with a pall (cloth covering).
Can anyone be buried in the lovely historic churchyard?
Because burial space is limited, only members of St. John and immediate family members of those already interred in the cemetery, are eligible for burial here.
